Importing Web Pages¶
You can add content from your website directly to Voxum without creating separate document files. This is perfect for importing existing web pages like FAQs, about pages, or product descriptions.
When to Use Web Import¶
Web import is ideal for:
- Existing website content - Your FAQ page, About Us, Services pages
- Content that updates frequently - Re-import when the page changes
- Quick additions - Faster than creating a separate document
- Public information - Any publicly accessible web page
Note
Web import only works with publicly accessible pages. It cannot access pages behind logins or password protection.
How to Import a Web Page¶
Step 1: Go to Documents¶
Click Documents in the left menu.
Step 2: Click Import Webpage¶
Click the Import Webpage button (or link) at the top of the page.

Step 3: Enter the URL¶
- Paste or type the full URL of the page you want to import
- Make sure to include
https://at the beginning - Click Import or Preview

Example URLs:
https://yourcompany.com/faqhttps://yourcompany.com/about-ushttps://yourcompany.com/services/plumbing
Step 4: Preview and Confirm¶
Before importing, you'll see a preview of the content that will be extracted:
- Review the extracted text
- Make sure it captured the important information
- Click Confirm Import to add it to your knowledge base
Step 5: Wait for Processing¶
Just like uploaded documents, imported web pages need a moment to process. Once complete, the content appears in your document list.
Tips for Best Results¶
Use Direct Page URLs¶
Import specific pages, not your homepage:
| Good | Not Ideal |
|---|---|
yoursite.com/faq |
yoursite.com |
yoursite.com/services/consulting |
yoursite.com/services (if it's just a list of links) |
yoursite.com/contact |
yoursite.com/blog (unless you want all blog content) |
Import Key Pages¶
Focus on pages that answer common customer questions:
- FAQ page
- Services or Products page
- Pricing page (if public)
- About Us page
- Contact and Hours page
- Policy pages (returns, shipping, etc.)
Keep Imports Updated¶
Web import captures the page content at the time of import. If the page changes:
- Delete the old imported content
- Re-import the page with updated information
What Gets Imported¶
Web import extracts:
- Text content - All readable text on the page
- Headings - Page structure and section titles
- Lists - Bulleted and numbered lists
Web import does NOT include:
- Images
- Videos
- Interactive elements
- Content loaded by JavaScript (sometimes)
- Sidebar or footer content (varies)
Troubleshooting¶
"Unable to access page"¶
This happens when:
- The URL is incorrect (double-check for typos)
- The page requires login
- The page is blocking automated access
- The website is down
Solution: Verify you can open the page in a regular browser, then try again.
Imported content is incomplete¶
Some websites load content dynamically with JavaScript, which web import may not capture.
Solution: If important content is missing, create a text document manually with the information and upload it instead.
Imported content includes unwanted text¶
Web import tries to extract main content, but may include navigation, headers, or footers.
Solution: You can't edit imported content directly. If the extra text causes problems, create a clean document manually.
Page content has changed¶
Web import captures a snapshot at import time. Changes to the live page won't automatically update in Voxum.
Solution: Delete the old import and re-import the updated page.
Web Import vs. Document Upload¶
| Feature | Web Import | Document Upload |
|---|---|---|
| Source | Live web page | File on your computer |
| Updates | Manual re-import needed | Manual re-upload needed |
| Formatting | Basic text extraction | Preserves some formatting |
| Best for | Existing website content | Custom documents, PDFs |
| Login-protected content | No | Yes (if you have the file) |
